Iván García started to play the guitar when he was 8 years old. He studied at the conservatory of the National University. Moreover, during his childhood studies he learnt to play the piano. However, the passion for the guitar was stronger and he chose to continue his musical studies but making an important emphasis with the guitar. When he was 16 he began his undergraduate program at the same University.

 

 

During this period his guitar master was Iréne Gomez. In addition, he studied a very interesting subject which name was “Colombian typical instruments”. Therefore, he learnt to play other instruments. For instance, tiple, tiple requinto y bandola. This new learning gave him the opportunity to develop a very special taste for his own music.

 

 

Thereby, he began to play with the most important musicians in Colombia; musicians who had a very wide Colombian musical knowledge. Consequently, he was part of important ensembles like “Pentagrama Latinoamericano, Trio de los Andes y Trio de Cámara Colombiano.

 

He received the best grades in his final concert at the University and with that success he has been capable of developing new achievements during the years.

Iván García has received master classes with great guitar players; for instance, Berta Rojas, Luis Zea, Carlos Bonell, Luis Caballero, Ana Vidovic, José Miguel Moreno, Pedro Ángel Ortega, Edwin Guevara y Andrés Villamil.
